The Vons Foundation was once again proud to sponsor the Southern California Special Olympics 2006 Summer Games. The Foundation has been a major supporter of Special Olympics for the last 21 years, becoming the title sponsor in 2002. 

In addition to sponsoring the event, Vons employee volunteers spent Saturday and Sunday making lunches for Special Olympics athletes and coaches. Over 10,000 lunches were made and distributed over the two day event.

The mission of Special Olympics Southern California is to provide sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with mental retardation or closely related development disabilities. By instilling lifelong habits of physical fitness and influencing the athletes' willingness to accept new challenges, SOSC helps athletes to "Inspire Greatness" in everything they do. Athletes are encouraged to build on their athletics successes and gain the courage to try new things in all areas of their lives.
